Research Seminar in Human Rights Studies: Emelie Lantz
Emelie Lantz, PhD Student in Human Rights Studies, gives a presentation of her ongoing PhD project.
Information from Emelie:
My doctoral project aims to create a deeper understanding of how social sustainability is practised in collaborative partnerships between civil society and local authorities in Sweden. The chapter, which is presented in this seminar, aim to analyse the practices for social inclusion and inclusivity through examining social relations, the act of claiming rights, and spatial boundaries in three social sustainability partnerships conducted in the city of Malmö. In the analysis, I have found that all partnerships excluded local less experienced CSOs from financial support and instead premiers larger, highly professionalised CSOs to smoothly run a service provision. Yet, the spaces created by the in two of the partnerships were on an activity level, in which also the residents participated, inclusive and genuinely built on local knowledge, long-lasting relationships and the needs of the residents in the areas they aimed to serve. However, the third partnership did not have a systematic way of involving groups that usually are not active in societal development.
The presentation will focus mainly on a draft of chapter 7 of the dissertation. Those who want to read this before the seminar can email eric.brandstedt@mrs.lu.se.
