Research Seminar in Human Rights Studies: Transformative-Emancipatory Pedagogy (TEP) to Reimagine Education
Workshop with Teresa M. Cappiali, PhD, Senior Lecturer, Université Internationale de Rabat & CEO of NOIWE, Sweden.
Welcome to a workshop based on the book Transformative-Emancipatory Pedagogy (TEP) to Reimagine Education: Tackling Controversies in Diverse Settings (Palgrave Macmillan).
Abstract: This book introduces Transformative-Emancipatory Pedagogy (TEP), a novel educational framework designed to reimagine the role of education in diverse settings. Rooted in the philosophies of Maria Montessori, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, and decolonial theorists, TEP aims to transcend traditional paradigms to offer a holistic, interactive, and socially relevant approach to learning. By nurturing an inclusive, reflective, and dialogic learning environment, TEP equips educators and learners to critically engage with and challenge oppressive structures, contributing to a more just, equitable, and human rights-focused society.
This seminar will briefly introduce the philosophical and theoretical foundations of TEP and explore with participants whether and how TEP is relevant and applicable to their field of study and professional practice. To do so, it will provide examples of complex societal issues with human rights implications, such as inequalities, racism, gender-based violence, and marginalization.
